it's almost like I'm famous and stuff!
In case you didn't know, I'm a sucker for a good ego stroke. That being said, I'm giddy like a school girl today because of something someone said about me on another site. Allow me to relate the story.
There was a tiny bit of a hootenanny over at Twenty Sided last week, when someone (we'll call him Dave) found out that Shamus is a Christian and made the assertion that he couldn't enjoy Shamus' webcomic knowing that. Shamus found out and was understandably offended by the comment, and posted his own take on it on his site. The comments were, of course, sympathetic to Shamus, and before the whole thing was over the original comment was taken back, apologies were made, and everyone shared in a group hug. All's well that ends well, right? Right!
Now, in the middle of all that, I made a pseudo-devil's advocate comment, wherein I attempted to dissect Dave's perspective and reassemble it into something easier to digest (and hopefully less insulting to Shamus). I put a lot of thought into it, I guess, because I didn't want to be taken out of context, but in the end I felt like it was largely past by in the storm. Which is, you know, understandable, because hardly anyone reads all of the comments on a blog, especially when there are more than fifty to sort through. We usually scan through, looking for important names and reading what they had to say.
Well, apparently, my comment wasn't ignored. In fact, Dave liked it because it gave him something to point to as reference to what he had meant to say, and Shamus liked it because... well, I'll let Shamus tell you why he liked it.
Yeah, like I said, I'm giddy. :)

Go you!
You know, I've always wondered how people would react if they knew Miyazaki (director of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away) was an Atheist Marxist?
But yeah, as for Orson Scott Card, I loved Ender's Game and some of the earlier books in that series, though I think my interest drifted away sometime after Xenocide... It's been a while though.
Oh, you might want to fix that last link... :)
Re: it's almost like I'm famous and stuff!
You are wise beyond your years, my friend. It's interesting to note just how many people in that comment thread (and me, incidentally) could identify with that feeling of unease upon discovering something about someone.
Re: it's almost like I'm famous and stuff!
You know, I've had a definite traffic spike in the last few days. It's kind of neat. Maybe someone will stick around.

...and for the second time, something I said is the motivation behind a Twenty Sided post. Oh, the power!
(yeah, I'm just kidding about that, but I do find it somewhat ironic)
