A Hole
(well, two, actually)
What a strange place is this Internet we have created. Today I have discovered, through wandering the 'Net, two stories about the love between two different men and their holes. Before we continue, kindly wipe those dirty thoughts from your mind, good sirs and ladies, because I'm not talking about that kind of hole.
These two stories, though different in length, tone, and purpose, both involve a testosterone-enhanced obsession with the subterranean.
The first story is a long one, with a small handful of pictures for explanation. It concerns a man (and several anonymous friends) going into a cave, digging a hole, and finding things. It's fairly well written and engaging. It's a scary story, meant to be taken as an account of true events, that has been compared to the writings of Edgar Allen Poe and HP Lovecraft. It is also, thankfully, quite probably fiction. Set aside an hour or two if you decide to actually read it.
The second story, though much shorter than the first, is also quite twisted and dark, though this time in a humorous way. It concerns a man in Louisiana digging a hole in his backyard, meant to be a "place to escape, and take naps, and shoot animals from." I have no reason to believe that this story is not true.
The two stories were found through various different sources, and it's confusing enough that I can't give you a full account of how I found each thing. Suffice to say, the following sites had a hand in this: pabook.net forums (1), metafilter (1, 2), I was raised by a cup of coffee (1,2)
