website I visit frequently:

  • Pabook.net - a friendly general discussion community with members from all over the world, that offers all its members a wide range of community-based features including forums, a chat room, a gallery and member blogs, to name a few.
  • Ars Technica - a place for tech- and science-related news and discussion
  • MySpace - a social networking website offering an interactive network of photos, blogs, user profiles, groups, and an internal e-mail system (my profile)
  • Last.fm - an Internet radio station and recommendation system that builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste, showing their favourite artists and songs on a customizable profile webpage
  • IMDB - a website database of movies and tv programs, actors, and everything else related to Hollywood. If you're looking for info on a movie or actor, this is the place to find it.
  • AllMusic - AllMusic is a website database of music and musical artists. If you're looking for info on an album or musician, this is the place to find it.

websites of note:

  • PabUK.com - personal website of Paul "PabUK" Wolfenden, owner/founder of the aforementioned Pabook.net website as well as Pawhosting and Pawsoft
  • Senses Fail.com - website for the Vagrant Records rock band Senses Fail, whose bassist, Mike Glita, has been one of my best friends for the large majority of the past decade
  • Drupal - a content management framework, content management system and blogging engine, which powers this site among many others

webcomics I love:

  • DM of the Rings - a webcomic set within a D&D campaign, told from the players' point of view. The twist: the campaign is the story of Lord of the Rings, in a world where Lord of the Rings never existed, and the Dungeon Master might be Tolkien himself. So we get to revisit Middle Earth through the lens of a now-clichéd fantasy genre that it inspired.
  • Order of the Stick - this one, too, is set entirely within a D&D campaign, but it tells its tale mostly from the perspective of the characters rather than the players. A lot of the humor comes from the metagaming viewpoint that the characters sometimes exhibit: somehow, they're very aware of the D&D rules and traditions that govern their existence like physics governs ours.
  • xkcd - suitable for romantics, nerds, and mathematicians.
  • Questionable Content - the on-going adventures of an insecure indie boy and the women who love him. It's like Tenchi, except it's hip.
  • my favorite freeware application links:

    • Firefox - a free, open source, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and hundreds of volunteers. It's faster, safer, and more secure than Internet Explorer.

    • Picasa - image-indexing software that allows you to organize digital photos, manipulate and edit them, and share them with your friends. Part of the free Google Pack, which comes with several other freeware applications that are very useful.
    • OpenOffice.org - an open-source office suite similar Microsoft Office, except that it's completely free. Has most, if not all, of Office's functionality. Create documents, spreadsheets, slide shows, and various other things as well.
    • AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition - a powerful, free anti-virus application.
    • Spybot: Search & Destroy - a spyware and adware removal program for Microsoft Windows. No more pop-ups and stolen credit card numbers!
    • foobar2000 - a freeware audio player/catalog tool for Windows.
    • Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) - a popular audio compression codec that is lossless.
    • Exact Audio Copy (EAC) - a proprietary CD ripping program
    • XPize - a GUI enhancer that replaces most of the non-XP icons, avis and bmps that Microsoft has always overlooked. It makes Windows XP look sweet!
    • Media Player Classic - a compact media player to replace Windows Media Player, without all the bloat.
    • 7zip - a complete file-archiving utility, much like Winzip or Winrar, but free.
    • PeerGuardian - a 'Net security tool that blocks connections from or to blacklisted IP addresses.
