introduction

You may wonder about who I am, so I've made this page. I'm a 24-year-old lifelong resident of New Jersey, with a BA in English from Rutgers University.

Like a lot of twenty-somethings, I'm currently in a coasting phase: my job and my direction in life aren't too concrete or satisfying for the time being, but I'm OK with that.

personal life

I live in Union County, in north New Jersey, and have lived here all of my life, though I spent my college years in and around central New Jersey. I might be looking to relocate somewhere entirely different in the future, though.

interests and hobbies

I'm a learning junkie, always trying to pick up new information or a new perspective on life. I spend a lot of time on-line, either browsing the internet or playing video games. I also like to discover and listen to different kinds of new music. This website exists mainly to help me keep track of those interests and to share them with others.

I do like to do other things, though. I love Frisbee, and I'm trying to teach myself a bit of hockey, too.

My recreational reading preferences have traditionally been limited to science fiction and fantasy, escapist literature mostly, though I do attempt to broaden myself by revisiting philosopher-writers that I first discovered in college, when time and interest allow. On top of novels, I read a lot of essays and papers on the internet covering a wide variety of subjects, and I spend a lot of time reading random articles in the Wikipedia.

I love independent films, mostly, as well as foreign films, though I do occassionally enjoy a good, low-brow comedy or two. That's not to say that those are the only kinds of movies I like, mind you... I enjoy movies from every genre, when they exhibit depth and talent. My DVD collection includes horror, action, comedy, anime, romance, foreign, and even western movies.

As far as video games go, again I like a lot of different kinds, though I do find myself playing a lot of RPG and RTS games. I also like adventure games, though they haven't been very popular sellers since the early '90s, so you don't see many of them on store shelves lately.

Musically, I like a lot of different things, from all different genres. Lately most of my attention has been on Indie Rock. Through 2006 I was on a self-created weekly CD program to broaden my musical horizons and introduce me to bands and genres I'd never hear of otherwise. It was a success.
